Before the first trip of the season, it needs more than a rinse — spring prep is where you undo winter's grime, catch the problems storage created, and set up the finish protection that carries you to fall. The roof is the most damage-prone surface on the rig and the one owners physically can't reach — which is why it gets skipped, and why RVs die of water damage. Spring roof care: scrub off the winter's algae and black staining with chemistry matched to your roof type (rubber EPDM/TPO or fiberglass — harsh degreasers strip rubber roof coatings), then inspect every caulk line around vents, skylights, and fixtures. Cracked or lifted sealant found in April is a $20 tube; found in August, it's soaked insulation inside your walls.

Winter runoff leaves the signature black streaks down every sidewall — ordinary soap smears them; dedicated streak removers dissolve them. Then assess the fiberglass: if it's chalky or dull, spring is polish time — machine compounding restores the gloss (same physics as our boat oxidation guide) and a season-grade wax or sealant protects it through the summer's UV. Finish with awnings washed both sides, wheels and steps scrubbed, and bugs off the front cap before they etch.

Every stored rig develops the same stale mustiness — months of trapped moisture in carpet, cushions, mattresses, and curtains. The fix is the same source-level approach we use in homes: extraction-clean the soft goods, treat odor where it lives, sanitize the kitchen and bath, and air the rig thoroughly. If mustiness persists after real cleaning, take it seriously — it can signal a leak, and we'll tell you if what we find points to one.
